Raising Spirits and Funds for Local Families

Record Turnout for Border Easter Egg Hunt Raises Spirits and Funds for Local Families

Over 700 eager children and just as many parents and grandparents, and a whole lot of Easter cheer filled the Albury Botanic Gardens on Saturday for the highly anticipated Border Easter Egg Hunt, hosted by Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare.

In a spectacular celebration of community spirit, the event delivered a sun-soaked morning of fun, colour, and connection — all in support of local families experiencing food insecurity.

From bouncing between jumping castles and getting creative in the Easter Hat Parade, to hunting for colourful eggs, the morning was packed with activities and entertainment for the whole family. Kids were all smiles enjoying face painting, balloon artists and lots of chocolate! The stage was also lit up with lively performances as well as gifted musicians from the Murray Conservatorium.

“We were blown away by the turnout and generosity of the community,” said Katrina Pawley, CEO at Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare. “It was a day full of joy and laughter — and knowing it was all for a great cause made it even more meaningful.”

“We were delighted to see so many children proudly showcase their colorful and creative hat designs, which dazzled the crowd and made it nearly impossible for the judges to choose just four winners.”

The event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of the Rotary Club of Albury our Major Event Parter this year, their sponsorship and support has been incredible, and just like any other day at FoodShare we could not have done it without our volunteers, who turned out in droves to do everything they could to help!

This year, we were lucky to receive funding from the Victorian State Government’s Multicultural Events Fund, and we were absolutely thrilled to include such great elements to our event. Thank you to Darren Wighton for delivering a powerful Welcome to Country, and to Glorious Kids Connections for dancing up a storm! We also had an energetic drumming session led by Felix from ZimPride Marimba, which was a big hit with the kids. To top it all off, everyone enjoyed some delicious samosas and beignets lovingly prepared by Annie at Taste Food.

Thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a joyful celebration of community and culture! All funds raised from the day will directly support Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare in their mission to assist local people doing it tough.

“Seeing the gardens come alive with families, music, and chocolate was heartwarming,” said Ms. Pawley “We’re so grateful to everyone who bought a ticket, donated, volunteered, or simply turned up. Your support truly makes a difference.”
