Community Delivers for FoodShare Winter Appeal

More than 600 kilograms of food and household essentials have been donated to FoodShare following our second Community Reverse Drive Thru, held at the FoodShare Community Pantry on Saturday 13 June.

Despite the chilly winter morning, 28 vehicles drove through the pantry at 81 Wigg Street, Wodonga, delivering much-needed donations to help local families experiencing hardship.

The event was a wonderful example of community spirit in action, bringing together supporters, volunteers and local organisations, all united by a shared goal of helping others.

One of the highlights of the morning was the support of the Riverina Sports Car Association, whose members arrived with generous donations and an impressive display of classic and sports vehicles. Their enthusiasm added a fun and welcoming atmosphere to the event and attracted plenty of attention from visitors.

FoodShare Community Pantry Coordinator Nicole Eirth said she was overwhelmed by the generosity shown by the community.

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to support our Winter Appeal. Every donation, no matter the size, will help ensure local families have access to the food and essentials they need,” Ms Eirth said.

“A huge thank you to the Riverina Sports Car Association for all their support and for bringing such a fantastic variety of cars through our drive thru. Their enthusiasm and community spirit helped make the morning a great success.”

FoodShare would also like to acknowledge the incredible team of volunteers who helped organise the event, collect donations and welcome supporters throughout the morning.

A special thank you goes to local media partners 2AY, Triple M The Border and ABC Goulburn Murray for helping spread the word. Many donors told us they heard about the event through local radio, highlighting the important role local media plays in connecting communities and supporting local causes.

While the Reverse Drive Thru may be over, the need for food relief continues to grow.

“The support we received on Saturday shows the incredible generosity that exists in our community,” Ms Eirth said.

“Our Pantry now supports more than 600 families every month, and we’re seeing increasing demand as the cost-of-living crisis affects more local people. We’re so grateful to everyone who contributed and helped make a real difference.”
