Mission Australia in partnership with FoodShare are organising a canned food drive and are searching for schools to get involved.
In the last 12 months the need for food parcels and hampers for families has dramatically increased and due to varying factors including the COVID-19 pandemic several agencies that provide food parcels in Albury have closed. With the impending reduction of JobSeeker and JobKeeper payments in April, it is anticipated that there will be a further increase in demand.
This food drive will not only assist with providing necessary food items for FoodShare’s Community Pantry program but will promote the essential services that FoodShare delivers to the community.
Students who wish to participate can donate items of non-perishable food (such as canned vegetables, canned fruit, dry pasta or spaghetti, pasta sauces, recipe bases, gravy, stir fry sauces, rice or noodles etc) and all donated items will go directly to FoodShare to be included in food hampers which are provided to those in the community experiencing financial hardship.
Mission Australia will be collecting donations from schools by Thursday 1 April 2021 (the day before Good Friday) and will deliver them to FoodShare.
We hope that you will be able to support this worthy cause!
