Murray Railway Modellers Inc. has turned a generous community gesture into meaningful support for local families, donating $3000 to FoodShare following the sale of a donated model railway collection.
The collection was gifted to the club by a Riverina family from Wagga Wagga after the passing of a loved one, with the family hoping the treasured collection would continue to bring enjoyment and purpose within the railway modelling community.
Club members sold the donated items to fellow enthusiasts, with all proceeds dedicated to charity. Murray Railway Modellers selected FoodShare as the recipient, recognising the organisation’s important work supporting people experiencing food insecurity across the region.
In a remarkable full-circle moment, FoodShare recently expanded its operations into Wagga Wagga, meaning the donation has now returned to support the very community where the collection originated.
The official cheque handover took place during the club’s annual show on Saturday 16 May, with FoodShare’s Community Pantry Coordinator Nicole joining Murray Railway Modellers President Peter Allen and Secretary Rhonda Sayers for the presentation.
Murray Railway Modellers Inc. thanked the donating family for their generosity and acknowledged the support of club members and the wider community in helping transform a personal collection into practical assistance for families doing it tough this winter.
